Tax Identification Number (TIN) for Spouses/Parents who come from abroad to USA for permanent or parttime stay.
(1)
We need to fill out the form W-7 to get this number (All the at the bottom of this page we have attached a W-7 Form, please make sure this is the latest (as of 2/11/2005 it is), if not its better to go to www.irs.gov website and download the latest). The tax law has changed. This application has to be filed along with the tax return of that particular year.

Note:
This return cannot be filed Electronically.
If the spouse/parents comes after the tax return has been filed, the return could be amended provided the spouse/parents come in the same year. Which means, that the passport endorsement should have the date of the same year.
(3)
Documents Needed:
(a) Submit a notarized or certified copy of a valid
passport).
(b) Marriage certificate should also be submitted for spouse.
(c) Address to be mailed.

Or you can go to the local IRs office along with documents as follows
(1) W-7 (check the passport number and Visa number etc is correct on this form, signed the form, dated it etc).
(2) Tax return. (see check list below and general check list also).
(3) Notarized copy of the passport.
(4) Marriage Certificate in case of spouse.
(5) All the dates (passport expiration date, visa date etc)
It has to be compiled in the order above.
Make sure you also check the general checklist
(1) Attached W-2 copies ( for the federal return attach federal copy, and all documents where federal tax was withheld).
(2) signed the returns both spouses.
(3) Checked the addresss, SSN etc.
(4) From address on the envelope.
(5) All dates (date of birth etc).

Paris, Rome, or Tokyo.
U.S. notaries public are available at U.S.
embassies and consulates worldwide. Foreign
notaries are acceptable as outlined by the
Hague Convention.
